At the west end is a gallery which is supported by a pair of unfluted wooden** [**Doric**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doric%5Forder) **columns. Below the gallery is a triptych form war memorial to parish men who died serving in** [**World War I**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World%5FWar%5FI)**, with mosaic of St Michael in the centre panel, dedicated by the parents of Lieutenant Thomas Chesters Bowler who is among those listed on the outer panels.**[**\[7\]**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St%5FAlkmund's%5FChurch%2C%5FWhitchurch#cite%5Fnote-swm-7) **The ground floor of the tower is used as a vestry. At the east end of the south aisle is the Lady Chapel which is entered through an oak screen. In the chapel is a** [**Jacobean**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacobean%5Fera) **communion table with a 19th-century** [**marble**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marble) **top. The 19th-century red sandstone** [**reredos**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reredos) **has carved panels and painted inscriptions. Above this is a painting of the** [**Last Supper**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Last%5FSupper) **which has been attributed to** [**Bonifazio Veronese**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonifazio%5FVeronese)**. In the south wall of the chapel is the chest tomb of John Talbot, 1st Earl of Shrewsbury. It consists of a recumbent 15th-century praying** [**effigy**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Effigy) **with dogs at its feet and a 19th-century tomb chest and arch. High on the east wall of the chapel is the** [**coat of arms**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal%5Fcoat%5Fof%5Farms%5Fof%5Fthe%5FUnited%5FKingdom) **of** [**Queen Anne**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anne,%5FQueen%5Fof%5FGreat%5FBritain)**. At the east end of the north aisle in the north wall is the chest tomb to Sir John Talbot, founder of the** [**grammar school**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grammar%5Fschool) **who died in 1550\. It consists of a 16th-century** [**alabaster**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alabaster) **effigy of a praying knight with a 19th-century tomb chest and arch. Under the gallery is a red and yellow sandstone** [**font**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baptismal%5Ffont) **dated 1661 with a wooden cover and a hexagonal table made from the sounding board of the former 18th-century pulpit. On the north aisle wall are two boards containing the** [**Ten Commandments**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ten%5FCommandments)**. In the nave is an 18th-century brass chandelier. In the chancel is a painted and** [**gilded**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gilding) **altar. Around it is a three-sided framework with figures on the tops of posts. The choirstalls are dated 1885\. The carved wooden** [**eagle lectern**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eagle%5Flectern) **and the hexagonal carved wooden pulpit date from the 19th century. Amongst the memorials is a brass plaque to the memory of the** [**composer**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Composer)[**Edward German**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward%5FGerman)**. A window in the north aisle contains fragments of medieval glass. The stained glass in the apse depicts the** [**Ascension**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ascension%5Fof%5FJesus) **between images of** [**St Peter**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint%5FPeter) **and** [**St Paul**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint%5FPaul)**. It was made by Warrington in 1860\. In the south aisle is a window dated 1868 with glass by** [**Ward and Hughes**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ward%5Fand%5FHughes)**. The three-**[**manual**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manual%5F%28music%29)[**pipe organ**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pipe%5Forgan) **results from a rebuilding of an earlier organ by** [**Peter Conacher**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conacher%5Fand%5FCo) **in 1894\. It was restored and altered in 1966 by** [**Hill, Norman & Beard**](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William%5FHill%5F%26%5FSon%5F%26%5FNorman%5F%26%5FBeard%5FLtd.)**.
